The Wayward Raven Survival Guide

(AKA: Frequently Asked Questions)

Warning: May Contain Self-Deprecating Humor. Read Anyway.

Welcome to the only FAQ page written by people who occasionally giggle when they hear the word “FAQ”. We believe finding answers should be an adventure—an organized, easily searchable one! We’ve gathered the toughest questions about our comics, that we thought would be relevant to someone who hasn’t met us yet.

Section 1: The Loot & The Logistics (E-commerce & Policy)

My comic arrived looking like it fought a bear. What's the return policy?

If your precious indie comic anthology, graphic novel or floppy comic was truly lost in the postal void or arrived bearing battle scars (damaged in transit), please let us know via email within 30 days of receipt. If you accidentally ordered it while sleepwalking, notify us within seven days. Redeemed digital content is ineligible for return or refund—once the bits are downloaded, they're yours!

Do you use the dreaded DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) on your digital comics?

Absolutely not! Our digital comics are proudly DRM-free. We believe you should have complete control over the media you purchase. We call it Digital Restrictions Management because that's what it is: a mechanism to enforce ridiculous restrictions. We prefer autonomy over antagonism. Buy it, own it, read it anywhere, forever!

I'm an international buyer using a freight forwarder. Whose fault is it if my package vanishes into the Bermuda Triangle?

We ensure your package leaves us accurately dispatched and in top shape. For international buyers using a US-based freight forwarding service, once we deliver it to that US address, our liability ends. If it vanishes after that, please direct your existential questions and loss claims to the forwarder.

Section 2: Wanna Make Comics? (Submissions & Editorial)

What kind of madness are you looking for? What are your comic submission guidelines?

We accept pitches for ongoing series and our infamous comic anthologies (like We Suck at Comics!). For projects like our anthologies, we generally post open submissions, so you should follow us on social media (you’re already doing that, right?) or sign up for our Collaborator’s mailing list for updates.

Outside of that, feel free to reach out to us if there’s something you’d like us to publish or review. We can’t guarantee we’ll accept it, but we may be able to give you some feedback.

Do I lose the rights to my baby when I publish with Wayward Raven Media?

NOPE! All creators retain the full rights and intellectual property ownership of their work. We are a creator-friendly platform. Our arrangement is non-exclusive, meaning you can publish your work concurrently on your own site or other hosting services. We want you to succeed, not sign your life away!

Depending on the nature of the project, we may ask for publishing rights on specific platforms or media, but those details would be ironed out in a specific contract. What do we know? We’re not lawyers, we’re barely comic creators!

Section 3: Defining the Chaos (Indie Media & Digital)

Is Wayward Raven Media part of a huge evil corporate empire? What is "Indie Comix"?

Nah. We’re not an evil megacorp. Just a couple of mild-mannered miscreants who like making comics with their friends.

The Independent Comics (Indie Comix) scene is the most complex, diverse, and interesting sub-category in the medium. We are fundamentally distinct from the Superhero Scene (Marvel and DC, continuity-focused) and the Creator-Owned Mainstream (Image/Dark Horse, non-superhero but rarely experimental). We live in the innovative Indie Scene, publishing works that embody personal expression and defy easy categorization.

Q: Should I choose physical comics (the old way) or digital comics (the future)?

Ah, the age-old debate! The choice between digital and physical comics is all about preference. Digital is portable, easy to back up, and great for anthologies and discovering new creators. Physical comics? You get the satisfying smell of the ink, the joy of collecting, and the ability to hold it in your hand. We support both formats!

One thing to not, for those of you who would lose your head if it wasn’t attached, bolted and duct-taped to your shoulders, is that with a Digital comic purchased through our site, you can always re-download anything you’ve purchased from us, easily and at no extra charge!
