Creator Highlight - A.A. Rubin And Marika Brousianou Suck At Comics

As part of our ongoing series in the leadup to launching our next Kickstarter for We Suck At Comics: Volume Two, we will be highlighting…

A.A. Rubin and Marika Brousianou!

A.A. Rubin

A. A. Rubin was cast out of the universe like a cosmic Cain. He roams the planes of reality, jumping through the variegated permutations of the multiverse across the dimensions of space and time. He writes everything from formal poetry to comic books, literary fiction to science fiction and fantasy, and almost everything in between. His gothic collection Into That Darkness Peering (illustrated by Marika Brousianou) was nominated for the Poe Visitor Award, and his poem “Night Walkers” won first place in the inaugural Poe-It-Like-Poe contest. A member of the SFWA, A.A. Rubin appeared recently in Love Letter to Poe, Cowboy Jamboree, and Ahoy! Comics. Doomed to travel and record, but never find a home, he chronicles his adventures across social media.

Marika Brousianou

Marika is a Chicago-based freelance illustrator and painter, skilled in traditional and digital media. She believes that images tell stories in their own special way. Marika was born in Athens Greece and studied Visual Arts at Deree College in Athens, and Illustration at the Academy of Arts in San Francisco. She has participated in group exhibitions both in Greece and the US. In addition to working with several independent writers, she is currently working on her first graphic novel entitled "Chapters". Some of her foundational influences include the art of Bernie Wrightson, Craig Thompson, and Sean Murphy, she mostly listens to doom metal while working on her illustrations.

A.A. and Marika team up to tell us a macabre tale named Soul Custody. Beautifully illustrated and skillfully written, Soul Custody follows a young girl as she prepares for a reunion with her long absent absent father. The story ends in a twist guaranteed to make the read go through a range of emotions. Maybe it will make you think twice about how casually you may give away your own soul…
