What's all this buzz about the Ringo Awards?

Have you been seeing a ton of posts about the Ringo Awards lately? Have you been asking yourself, what the heck is the big deal? Well, let us help!

How did the Ringo Awards start?

Not that Ringo…

The first Ringo Awards were presented at Baltimore Comic Con in 2017 in honor of Mike Weiringo. The tradition continues every year at the September convention.

Who was Mike?

Mike was a comic book artist known for his work on The Flash, Spider-Man and The Fantastic Four. He also published his own series Tellos about a young boy and his anthropomorphized companions through Image and Gorilla Comics. He often signed his work “Ringo,” hence the name of the awards.

So what’s the big deal then?

The Mike Weiringo Comic Book Industry Awards are meant to honor excellence in comics, voted on by both the pros and their fans. There are twenty-one different categories, such as best writer, best artist, best webcomic, and even best anthology. Categories like best hero and best villain are also part of the voting.

Please don’t make us do the sad puppy dog eyes. It hurts us to be sincere.

Did we mention best anthology?

Well, just maybe…

By now, we assume you folks know us pretty well. We aren’t going to try to be coy about it (although we do find the idea somewhat humorous). Instead we’re just going to come out and say it. Why not nominate We Suck At Comics: Volume 1?

Seriously, what’s the worst that can happen? All nominations are done directly on their website, so its not like they can laugh you out of the building or anything. All you have to do is go to the Ringo Awards site, verify your email and tell ‘em We Suck doesn’t suck!

Well, ok. We might point and laugh a little.

Seriously though, we truly appreciate any considerations. Just receiving a nomination is an honor and there are soooooo many amazing creative people, teams and works that are incredibly deserving of these awards. And if you don’t nominate us, why not nominate some of your other indie comics favorites?

Thanks so much for reading and considering us!
